“We are Fuckin’ Perfect”–Pink

Mostly, songs that discuss depression and suicide released in recent memory have meant well. With this song, Pink directly confront depression and suicide. She doesn’t dance around the subject matter, but she cuts right through the euphemism and candidly faces the topic. In her music video, she graphically interprets the song well.

The song wants us to know that the persons we see as being utterly perfect in everything despises themselves that much, and have a huge vendetta against themselves. Everyone makes mistakes and experiences awkward moments in their lives. We have our ways of facing and handling those situations, and we know that harming ourselves is not the right way out of this. But sadly, many people are hurting themselves because they cannot please everyone in life or cannot fit in with a specific group of people. We shouldn’t doubt ourselves as being anything other than perfect.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and thus everyone has their perception of what is a beauty. We can also have a different opinion of “perfection,” therefore we should not change who we are just to fit in with others, or despise ourselves because we are not like them. When you suffer, it doesn’t mean that you are the only one suffering. The people around you also suffer especially those considering you as someone who is special to their hearts. As shown in the video of “Fuckin Perfect,” Pink harms herself because she despises the person she is and desperately wanting to be like the others. But in the end, you will see her happy with the person whom she married with, and talk to her daughter the same thing that was said to her.

Here are some ways to fully accept yourself as what Pink want us to be:

  1. Celebrate Your Strengths

Many of us have that kind of behavior where we collect our shortcomings than our strengths. We fail to see our strength, so we tend to feel worthless. It is essential to have our list of positive attributes so every time we feel worthless, we can review it.

  1. Forgive Yourself

Regrets from our past prevent us from practicing acceptance of one’s self. We must forgive ourselves and move on to our recent life. We must learn from our mistakes, make efforts to be a better person, and accept that no one can change our past. When the tinges of remorse resurface, we must tell ourselves that we have made the best decision with the information we have at that time.

  1. Create A Support System

We must stay away from the people who are putting us down and be near to those who can understand us and can accept who we are. We can have our support system from our friends, families and significant others.

Let us all remember that suicide is the most stupid option to choose. Running away from a situation doesn’t solve one; instead, it became a more significant gap that hurts other too. Accepting oneself is the ultimate key to fighting suicide. Let us remember “If you ever feel like you’re nothing, your fucking perfect to me.”
